Word Guess Tips: How to Crack the Puzzle in 3 Tries
Pro Wordle-style players use specific opening words and elimination strategies. Here's the exact method that gets results in 3 or fewer guesses.
Start With a High-Coverage Word
Your first guess should contain 5 of the most common letters in English 5-letter words. Great starters include CRANE, STARE, SLATE, or RAISE — each covers high-frequency vowels and consonants.
Use Your Second Guess to Eliminate
If your first guess gives you some yellows and greys, your second guess should target completely different letters to maximise the information gained — do not just rearrange letters from guess 1.
Vowel Coverage
English 5-letter words almost always contain at least 2 vowels. Ensure your first two guesses collectively cover A, E, I, O, U. Once you know which vowels are in the word, the solution space shrinks dramatically.
The Elimination Mindset
Think of each guess not as trying to get the answer but as eliminating as many wrong answers as possible. Information theory suggests the optimal strategy halves the remaining possibilities with every guess.
Hard Mode Challenge
Once you can consistently solve in 4, try imposing your own hard mode: every guess must use all confirmed green and yellow letters. This restriction forces smarter deduction and improves your score over time.
